Dramatic timelapse footage shows a wildfire spreading at the doorstep of the historic Mount Wilson Observatory in Los Angeles.

Firefighters battled the blaze and managed to save the astronomical complex with the help of aerial tankers.

Bobcat Fire in southern California has already burned through more than 22,000 hectares.
